Hardy & self repairing
Paradise Kikuyu is grass made for living – soft to touch yet hardy enough to handle kids, pets & playtime. In fact, Paradise Kikuyu’s superpower is that it can easily repair from any damage the family might throw at it, without you having to do a thing.
High quality
Because Paradise Kikuyu seeds are harvested directly from our own farm, you can guarantee you’ll receive them exactly as intended, pure and unadulterated. They get the tick of approval from us – the original pioneers – as the best kikuyu seeds you can buy.
Low Maintenance
Paradise Kikuyu is incredibly versatile. It handles both sun and shade, and is drought and frost tolerant, so is suitable for most areas of Australia. It does not require frequent watering and is highly defensive against weeds, so you can be sure it won’t become a constant source of frustration.
This product is perfect for your home lawn. It is suitable for both new lawns and oversowing/patch repair. Use our Volume Calculator to determine the amount you need for your area.
Being a warm-season grass, the best time to sow is mid-late Spring, Summer or early Autumn.
Mowing
Mowing consistently during the growing season will help promote lawn growth, keep the lawn thick and lush, and can also help keep weeds under control. Mowing throughout the year can be done when the grass reaches around 25-30mm high. During summer, mowing will be required around every 7-10 days. During winter, the grass will become dormant, meaning mowing can be scaled back to every 2-5 weeks if necessary.
Tip: Sharp mower blades are important! Dull blades can damage the lawn by ripping and fraying at the ends, leading to a stressed & unsightly lawn! We also recommend using a catcher for best results.
As kikuyu has runners, it’s important to maintain the edges on your lawn to stop it spreading into areas you don’t want grass. General whipper snipping is an easy way to create an edge. Purpose built handheld and powered edgers are also an option for the avid lawn lover. Installing a physical barrier is also a great option.
Watering
Once established, Paradise Kikuyu can handle tough drought conditions better than most other grasses. Watering requirements will depend on the climate in your area. As a general guide to maintaining a lush green appearance, use the following:
Spring & Autumn: once a week
Winter: generally watering can be scaled right back in winter. Once per week will be plenty if the lawn hasn’t gone into dormancy.
Summer 30⁰C+: 3 times a week
Fertilising
After sowing your Paradise Kikuyu seeds, we recommend spreading a layer of Paradise Starter Fertiliser.Paradise fertilisers are specifically formulated to be the best mix of nutrients for kikuyu lawns. They make specific nutrients immediately available to the seedling for increased vigour. They are a granular product for ease of application and designed to slowly release the nutrients into your lawn.
Around 12 weeks post sowing is a good time to fertilise your lawn with our Paradise Booster Fertiliser to encourage further growth and establishment. As for ongoing maintenance, fertilising once at the beginning of spring & another application in autumn should suffice, and will help the lawn to retain its beautiful green colour through winter.
Minimum germination 85%*
*This guarantees that 85 seeds out of every 100 will begin to grow (if instructions followed correctly)

Preparation for the new grass was super easy. We sprayed it out & left to take effect. We then lightly worked the area to loosen up the top soil. Spread seed out and kept well watered for a month. Germination was great. Within 8 weeks I had a full lawn.

We originally laid turf but it never took evenly & was patchy in places. We did an overhaul of the yard and used Paradise Kikuyu seed. The lawn is now thick, even and a deeper green, it’s a much nicer area!
